Worship Service

“Rebuilding with Love, Faith, and Joy”
Each October, Nineteenth Street Baptist Church and the Building Fund Committee bring to you a celebration of stewardship. Begun in 2015 as Stewardship Sunday, it is now a month-long observance that will shine the spotlight on Christian stewardship through video testimonials, a special guest vocalist, this webpage, and more.
Stewardship Sunday is also a time for the Building Fund Committee to raise funds for the church’s Capital Improvement Project fund. We invite you to support this caring act of stewardship.

We’re hosting our second 90-Day Giving Challenge! The friendly personal challenge is a way to inspire the church family to be good stewards of our church home. Stewardship Sunday Worship Service October 24 │10 a.m.
Join us for a spirit-filled worship service, livestreamed on YouTube. Senior Pastor Darryl D. Roberts, Ph.D., will bring the day’s message and guest vocalist Monique Griffiths and Nineteenth Street’s Praise Team will minister in song.
Theme & Scripture
Theme: “Rebuilding with Love, Faith, and Joy”
Scripture: “‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” Haggai 2:9 (NIV)
This year’s theme was inspired by the story of the Jews’ return to Jerusalem after Babylonian captivity and the rebuilding of their temple. Like the Jews’ experience, our congregation’s eventual return to in-person church and our beloved church home will be a time of rejoicing and rebuilding. It also will be a time of mourning, as we remember those we’ve lost to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
What it won’t be is a time of going back to the way things were. Although the place will be familiar, we will be the architects and stewards of a new and different church experience. We will face challenges, but if we approach this unique time of rebuilding with love, faith, and joy, we can be even better stewards of all that God has entrusted to our care.
Fundraising Project
This year, we’ve set a goal of raising $10,000 by Stewardship Sunday—October 24— to help complete the church’s HVAC improvement project. We know it’s hard to get excited about raising money for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, especially when most in-person church activities have been suspended. But having funds so the church can continue providing a safe, comfortable, and an inspiring space for worship and good works, is exciting.
Fundraising for the HVAC project began in 2019 to replace the sanctuary air conditioner and two steam boilers that heat the church at an estimated cost of over $300,000. This spring, through the generosity of church family and friends and other sources, the church was able to replace the air conditioner and one boiler, leaving the second boiler to be replaced at an estimated cost of $93,000.

I’ve Got a Testimony
Each year, members of the church family give added meaning to our stewardship celebration through heartfelt testimonials that speak to the significance of stewardship in their lives. We hope these expressions will be a source of inspiration as you reflect on, and perhaps reimagine, your own stewardship journey.

Environmental Stewardship Spotlight
As we celebrate stewardship, we’re mindful of our roles as environmental stewards. Studies show that environmental hazards disproportionately impact African Americans and other minorities, with minorities more likely to live where the highest levels of climate change are projected to occur.
