On February 12, 2021, Nineteenth Street Baptist Church hosted The COVID-19 Vaccine and You, Virtual Town Hall, to inform the community about the coronavirus vaccines.
A distinguished panel of health and faith professionals covered a range of topics during this informative session, including the development of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, how they work, achieving immunity, DC’s system for allocating the vaccines, and messaging to young adults. The panelists also addressed issues unique to the Black community, discussing the need for Blacks to participate in clinical trials, vaccine equity and access, the role of the Black church in spreading the word about the vaccines, and even how enslaved Blacks introduced the idea of vaccination.
